Useful information
HILIC uses a polar stationary phase and a mobile phase rich in acetonitrile. Polar compounds — amino acids, sugars, polar metabolites and counter-ions — are retained more strongly the more polar they are.
A mobile phase with a high organic content suits mass spectrometric detection. HILIC columns need longer equilibration than reversed-phase columns before first use.
